GOYA GUMBANI & SUBCULTURE VALLEY OF DEF (FEAT. PEARL DE LUNA)

Born and bred in NYC, Goya Gumbani emerged from across the Atlantic and has been getting his fingers into all sorts of interesting pies. Recently he teamed up with keys player Joe Armon Jones on 'Fix It', and this time he's joined forces with Subculture and Pearl De Luna on 'Valley of Def Feat. Pearl de Luna'. Owed to Subculture's production, the track has a dubby feel, laced with bursts of saxophone and atmospheric noise and Pearl's vocals are slow and breathy. Some might pin Gumbani as a rapper, but with his relaxed poetic flow and narrative words, he's cut from a different kind of cloth. The accompanying video has a super-8 feel and shot in South London, you might recognise the hustle and bustle of Peckham High Street. Watch and listen here. -Ellie Rose-Davies
